Phoenix Floor Removal
Tile, carpet, wood and vinyl removal, thinset grinding and slab leveling, so your new floor goes down on a clean, flat surface.
Floor removal is the part of a flooring project nobody sees, and it decides how good the new floor looks. In Phoenix that usually means taking out tile. Tile is bonded to the slab with thinset, and pulling it up leaves ridges and lumps that have to be ground off before LVP, wood or new tile can go down.
We handle the tear-out, grinding, crack repair and leveling, and haul the debris away. Dust control is part of the plan from the start, because tile removal in a lived-in home can coat every surface if it is not contained.
Ceramic, porcelain and stone tile taken up, with the thinset ground down to bare concrete.
Carpet, pad, tack strip and staples removed and hauled away.
Glue-down and floating floors removed, with adhesive scraped or ground off.
Cracks repaired, high spots ground and low spots filled with self-leveling compound.
| Old floor | Dust and noise | Prep needed after |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet | Low | Remove tack strip, clean slab |
| Floating LVP or laminate | Low | Check flatness |
| Glue-down wood or vinyl | Moderate | Scrape or grind adhesive |
| Tile | High without containment | Grind thinset, repair cracks, level |
Tile removal is the loudest and dustiest of these. Containment, air scrubbers and vacuums attached to the grinders keep the mess in the work area.
Some flooring and adhesives in older homes, including black cutback mastic and certain vinyl tiles, can contain asbestos. In a home built before the 1980s, testing before removal is the safe step.
Once the old floor is up we can see the slab. Cracks, old repairs and uneven areas get addressed before anything new goes down.
Plastic containment, covered vents and dust-collecting grinders protect the rest of the house.
Tile and thinset are heavy. Debris is hauled away so you are not left with a pile in the driveway.
Removal cost depends on what is coming out, how much of it, and how firmly it is bonded. Tile over a well-bonded thinset bed takes longer than carpet. Grinding, leveling compound, crack repair and disposal are priced in.
If testing for older materials is needed, that comes first and is handled separately. Your estimate lists removal and prep as their own lines.

We look at the existing floor, ask about the home's age and plan containment.
The work area is sealed off and nearby surfaces covered.
The old floor comes out and the slab is ground clean.
Cracks are repaired, the slab is leveled and the floor is ready for installation.
Without containment, very. With plastic walls, covered vents and dust-collecting grinders, most of the dust stays in the work area.
Usually, if the work is contained to part of the home. Whole-house tile removal is easier if you can be away for a day or two.
If your home is older and the flooring or adhesive could contain asbestos, testing by a qualified lab or inspector should happen before removal.
Not always. Some floors can go over existing tile. Removal is the better choice when the old floor is loose, cracked or would raise the height too much.
